After the leagues’ realignment which took effect in 2002, the Titans play in the Southern Division of the AFC. Originally based in Texas as the Houston Oilers, they bagged two league titles and made it to the playoffs five times despite having strong opponents. They now play in Tennessee. Their uniform is of the color blue, red, and white. The logo of the team shows a white T that is surrounded by red stars. The history of the teams name can be traced back to the Titans in Greek mythology, who displayed exemplary features of authority, stability and perfection. During 1978-1980 Earl Campbell, who had been a four-time rushing champion led the team into three consecutive playoffs. The remained consistent between 1980s to the 1990s and made it to seven straight postseason appearances during 1987-1993. They were made a chartered member of AFL in 1960 and won AFL’s first championship held that very year. After an year they bagged another AFL title under the coaching of Wally Lemm, who guided the team that featured not only a strong offense but an impressive lineup too. Some of the star players were Blanda, Billy Cannon, Bill Groman and Charley Hennigan. They were joined in NFL in 1970 as a result of the NFL-AFL merger. They recorded their first winning record in 1975 under the guidance of Bum Phillips, after four consecutive lost seasons under four different coaches. Earl Campbell was drafted into the team in 1978. He was a prolific runner who bagged four straight rushing titles during 1978-1981 along with two consecutive MVP awards in the same years. The Oilers made it to the playoffs in the AFC Championship Games of 1978 and 1979, but they were defeated by the eventual winners i.e. the Pittsburgh Steelers, but after several injuries to Campbell that decreased his efficiency the team faced a six year slump during 1981-1986. Things changed when quarterback Warren Moon was drafted in 1984. it resulted in seven consecutive playoff appearances for the team starting in 1987. Despite that the team failed to make an appearance in the AFC Championship Game. Several of their players posted 1,000-yard seasons. In 1990, Moon was awarded the MVP owing to his two straight 4,000-yard seasons. Tackle Ray Childress made the defense at that time, while the offense featured Bruce Matthews and Mike Munchak. Mike Rozier was the main running back. In 1994 when Moon retired, the team made the worst record ever in their recent 11 years. They moved to Tennessee in 1997, and then to Nashville in the post 1998 season. This was where it was renamed as the Titans.
