Roger Neilson brought many successes to the team through his defending strategies but Panthers tried a change by hiring Dough MacLean as a coach of the team. Team ended the 1995-96 season with a third place in Atlantic division with a 41-31-10 record for 93 points. The upset Panthers kept playing courageous and winning style of hockey next year. The 1997-98 season was ruined by changes because most of the changes affected team’s performance. The 1998-99 regular season was much better than the previous battle. Even though they successfully earned 15 more points than last year but they missed the playoffs again. Pavel Bure joined back after having several knee surgeries in 1999-2000 season. The 2000 season was a slow start Panthers. General Manager Bryan Murray and Coach Terry Murray were released of their duties and Duane Sutter was the fifth head coach. The team was nearly out of the contest when goalie Roberto Luongo provided with five shutouts. Mike Keenan came in place of Duane Sutter when Sutter was hired for a longer time deal, but he left within few months into the 2001 season. They kept on struggling on the ice with young team and injuries to some of their vital players. They were out of the contest for straight second year. Panthers had many young players in the 2002-03 season. Olli Jokinen, Kristian Huseliun, Stephen Weiss, and Jay Bouwmeester made major contributions to the team.
