Bengals History

1970- now, Cincinnati Bengals; NFL
1968-1969, Cincinnati Bengals; AFL IV

Cincinnati Bengals is a professional American football team that is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Presently they are included in the Northern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC). They played for the very first time as a member of the American Football League but later became a member of the NFL under the AFL-NFL Merger that had been announced in 1966 but took place in 1970.

They made it to the Super Bowl twice in 1980ís but were unfortunately defeated on both accounts. The owner of the team Paul Brown died post 1990 playoffs and the control was transferred to his son, Mike Brown. Things changed for the worse and the team posted 14 straight lost seasons.

However they improved under Coach Marvin Lewis in the early 2000ís. Since then they have started performing consistently. Carson Palmer was drafted as their quarterback. But his performance was no match to that of Kitnaís. In spite of that Carson opened the quarterback in the next season and guided the team to its first playoff appearance since 1990.

In the meantime Paul Brown Stadium was built owing to several private and public contributions. Although around that time the stadiums were commonly renamed after company names in exchange for money. But all such offers were refused by Mike Brown, who is the current owner of the team as homage to his father.

On the average a no huddle Offense is used by all teams in the last minutes of the game, but the head coach and the offense coordinator made several changes in 1988 and made the offense a standard regardless of the time remaining.

A high percentage of a passing scheme was designed by Brown and Walsh. It is commonly referred to as the West Coast Offense and is used by several teams. It was initiated by Ken Anderson for the very first time.

An effective theme was carried out. It revolved around the development of the qualities that were propagated by the former basketball coach John Wooden. Further not many acquisitions were made by the team and the players who were drafted were positioned elsewhere rather than as starters, which is an unintelligent move for a team that is still in its rebuilding process.

They defeated Baltimore and Oakland before their winning streak came to an end and their losing streak started. They lost to Indianapolis, then to the Bengals and finally to Denver and the Steelers. The fourth loss resulted in their elimination and they had a final season end record of 8-8.
