The Ravens are only the third team ever that won the championship after a wild card entry. In the following season along with their new quarterback they made an attempt to defend their title but in vain. They faced defeat on the hands of an injury to their key player, Jamal Lewis and a very weak offense. But after a start of 3-3, they won against Minnesota Vikings and clinched a wild card berth. In 2003, almost half of the team was bought by Steve Bisciotti before the season whereas the remaining half after the season by the original owner Art Modell. To date Modell acts as a consultant for the team but his long tenure as an owner ended when Biscotti claimed official ownership. During the following off season several draft picks were utilized. The Ravens failed to draft Jamal Lewis and Adalius Thomas who made deals with the Cleveland Brown and the New England Patriots respectively. They managed to trade Willis McGahee with 3rd and 7th round draft picks in 2007 and again as a 3rd round pick in the year that followed. Other than that they also drafted star quarterback Troy Smith. Their new uniform was introduced in the late nineties. It was composed of white pants that included black and purple stripes that were paired with a purple jersey.
