However they moved in 1966 to the new Cardinals Stadium that is located in the suburbs of Glendale. Currently the Arizona Cardinals are included in the West Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Cardinals have the distinction of being oldest professional American football club in the entire of the United States to date. The team was established back in 1898 in Chicago as Morgan Athletic Club. At that time this team was given the name Racine Normals’ owing to their placement on the Racine Avenue. After their relocation fro the Racine Avenue they were renamed the Racine Cardinals. At this time they sported red cardinal uniforms. They were renamed after they were included in the NFL in 1920 as its charter member. They were further relocated to St. Louis, Missouri and then to Phoenix in 1988. Before the commencement of the use of name Arizona the cardinals were more popularly known as the Phoenix Cardinals owing to their placement at Phoenix. Despite of the teams’ relocation at both times, they always stayed the members of the Eastern conference/division. Before the start of the 1953 season they were placed in the East division after the Eastern and the Western conferences were divided. And even after the AFL-NFL Merger that too place in 1970 they were positioned in the Eastern division of the NFC. And it was not until 202 when they were eventually relocated to the Western division of the NFC. The Cardinals have bagged the NFL Championship twice in 1925 and 1947. But unfortunately after the above mentioned successes the team has failed to record a title victory since then and is the current holder of the record for the longest championship drought ever by a football team. Further the Cardinals have also bagged two division titles in 1974 and 1975 since their 1947 NFL championship title. Despite of being the most long standing team in the football history, excluding the Bert Bell Benefit Bowl that was held in the 60’s, it posts an all time overall record of just 2-5. However the 1950’s were very oppressing and they failed to make an impressive record. They only managed to win 33 matches in the entire decade. Owing to their struggling efforts they were presented with a stadium of their own that was inaugurated in August of 2006. The stadium has the capacity to house sixty three and a half thousand spectators which can be further extended to around seventy three thousand as necessary. The defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21-13 in the opening game played at this stadium. Things have started to improve for this team and it seems as if they are back on the track.
